The Path I Travel

What: A compilation CD of artists representing various spiritual paths.
Why: Exposes people to different spiritual paths held by famous people they respect - utilizes the credibility and fame of various musicians to help people become more tolerant.

Details: What does Prince, Madonna, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner, Cat Stevens, Seals and Croft, Pete Seger, Bono, Dave Matthews, Ani Difranco, and Tracy Chapman all have in common? Besides being masterful musicians and performers, they are all famous adherents to spiritual/philosophical paths that have changed and improved their lives. "The Path I Travel" is a compilation CD by various famous artists representing various spiritual paths. Their many faith paths help us all to look at others through eyes that judge them for what they contribute to the world rather than how similar their beliefs and practices are to ours.

It is hard to be intolerant of people we know and respect. That is the goal behind celebrity campaigns like "The Path I Travel" CD - they bridge the gap between the familiar and the unknown. Perhaps we knew nothing about Rastafarianism, Kabala, or Mormonism before we found out that Bob Marley, Madonna and Gladys Knight not only are followers of these respective paths, but credit them with their growing care and compassion for humanity. Or maybe you never knew a Jehovah's Witness before Prince, a recent convert who has found a new passion for making the world a better place through his experience. In fact, people described his last concert tour as "one of the most profound spiritual experiences of their lives." Or perhaps we thought of Buddhism as people unconcerned with the world or Moslems as prone toward war - that is, before witnessing the humanitarian efforts of Buddhist Tina Turner or listening to the words of "Peace Train" by Moslem Cat Stevens. And there are many others. Our inclination is to judge the merit of everyone else by their distance or difference from us.
